Star Party at Mt. Helix

LA MESA -- Mt. Helix Park and the San Diego Astronomy Association will be co-hosting the second annual Star Party at Mt. Helix Park on Saturday, May 23. This is a free, family event.  Complimentary parking and shuttles begin at 6:45pm and will be provided by the Mt. Helix Park Foundation.   Viewing begins at 8:15pm.  Both parking and shuttles will be located at the lots next to the San Miguel Fire Station at the corner of Mt. Helix Drive and Vivera Drive in La Mesa.  Enjoy live music by Mt. Helix resident Trace Loptein from 7:30 to 8 pm - bring a picnic dinner and enjoy the sunset.  Armed with professional telescopes, astronomers will be available to interpret the night sky.   Visitors are invited to bring their own telescopes.  Equipment drop-off is located at the upper parking area within the Park (please note there is no parking in the upper lot the evening of the event, only drop off areas).  Be sure to designate someone in your party to stay with your belongings.  Saturn will be at opposition providing for some interesting viewing.  At our last Star Party guests saw Orion, Jupiter and the passing International Space Station.
