La Mesa Family Leading March Of Dimes Event

LA MESA -- Having had a healthy full-term pregnancy with their first son, Krista Torquato of La Mesa never dreamed she’d experience anything different. However, at 34 weeks she had a tear in her placenta and went into preterm labor delivering Tyler Henry, five pounds four ounces, via emergency c-section.

Before his parents could even hold him, Tyler was rushed to the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU), where he spent three weeks. Now a thriving nine-month-old, Tyler is surrounded by his loving family. They are thankful for the love and support they received through some of the hardest weeks of their lives.

“We look forward to many years of giving back to March of Dimes so they can continue to help families and touch their lives, as they have touched ours,” shared Krista.

The Torquato family will participate as “Team Tyler Henry” and are proud to serve as the Ambassador Family for 2012. It is in celebration of Tyler, as well as for thousands of premature babies born each year that his family will walk in the upcoming March of Dimes March for Babies.

Funds raised by March for Babies help support prenatal wellness programs, research grants, neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) family support programs and advocacy efforts for stronger, healthier babies right here in the San Diego area.

March for Babies takes place on April 14, 2012 at Pier Amphitheatre in Oceanside and on April 28, 2012 at Balboa Park in San Diego. There will be live entertainment, food and a variety of vendors. Registration begins at 7 a.m. The walk begins at 8 a.m.

To register, visit or call (858) 576-1211. March for Babies is locally sponsored by Jack in the Box and Farmers Insurance.
