Police Catch Attention of 69 Distracted Drivers
LA MESA -- If you find yourself stuck behind people chatting on their cell phone and angering you with their erratic speeds, then this was a good day for you.
Police said officers are trying to keep everyone safe on our streets so they are aggressively enforcing the state’s “Distracted Driving” laws conducting the ninth “Traffic Safety Enforcement Program“ operation Friday morning. The program relies on heavy enforcement and public education as a means to help reduce deaths and injuries on our local roadways.
La Mesa Police Officers wrote 69 tickets to persons either talking on their cell phone or texting while they were driving and gave 13 warnings for lesser traffic offenses in a eight hour period on Friday morning. Funding for this operation was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
