Police Issue Cinco De Mayo DUI Warnings

LA MESA -- Cinco de Mayo is one of those unofficial holidays that bring out both the amateur and professional drinkers. If you haven't heard enough about La Mesa's special enforcement of DUI laws, read this recent La Mesa Today Special Report and see traffic information below. A word to the wise . . .Officials estimate a DUI costs $10,000 in legal fees, fines, and future insurance costs.

Case Highlights: On Thursday, April 24, 2014, La Mesa Police received a report of residential burglary that had occurred in the 5800 block of Derk Drive. The victim reported that the burglary occurred sometime between 7:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. on Thursday. Unknown suspect(s) entered the residence through unknown means. Loss includes an iPad and a laptop. Anyone with information is asked to call the La Mesa Police Department at 619-667-1400 or you may also call Crime Stoppers’ anonymous toll-free tip line at (888) 580-TIPS (or visit www.sdcrimestoppers.com). You can remain anonymous, and be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information in this case.

Traffic Information: For the upcoming Cinco De Mayo celebrations next week, the La Mesa Police Department’s Traffic Unit is preparing to participate in extra DUI enforcement. La Mesa Police Department’s Traffic Unit will beef up their DUI enforcement efforts on over the coming weekend and on Monday, May 5th. We will have extra officers out on patrol to aggressively look for potentially impaired and distracted drivers. We urge the public to seek alternatives like using a designated driver, public transportation, taxis etc. Please have a safe Cinco De May weekend!
