Spate of Robberies Continues; Circle K, Youth Hit

LA MESA – Police were investigating two robberies that occurred within thirty minutes of each other generally within the Village portion of La Mesa.

At 10:32 p.m. a juvenile was stopped by a group of five other youths near 4200 Spring Street after he was exiting the 7-Eleven store on Palm Avenue. Pier 1 Robbery

Grossmont Center - A man armed with a knife robbed the Pier 1 Imports store early today. The suspect forced the female clerk to open the safe while holding an object, possibly a knife, against her back. The suspect left with an undisclosed amount of cash and was last seen running into the nearby parking structure. The suspect was described as a black male, 20-25 years old, 6 foot tall, 165 pounds, wearing a black ski mask, gray hooded sweatshirt, black pants and white tennis shoes.

Another Armed Robbery in La Mesa

LA MESA -- Another business has been hit by an armed robber.

Late Sunday night police say an armed robber entered the Union-76 gas station at 6085 Lake Murray Boulevard, flashed a handgun and demanded cash and cigarettes. The clerk obliged and the man -- described as a white male, 5-9 to 6' -- fled on foot. No vehicle was identified and no one was injured in the event.

A Common La Mesa Weed Can Be a Free, Healthy Dinner

Perhaps you have a well-manicured lawn, or wonderful landscaping with native plants, or a flourishing garden. But we don't. Environmental Commission May Join Forces With Kids Fest

LA MESA – The La Mesa Environmental Sustainability Commission, a new advisory board to the La Mesa City Council, met Monday night and demonstrated a willingness to look into its own operation for efficiencies and reductions in environmental impact.

Second Armed Robbery in Two Days

FLETCHER PARKWAY – For the second time in two days, an armed robbery has occurred in a generally quiet part of La Mesa.

Just after 7 p.m. Sunday evening, La Mesa police report a man armed with a handgun entered the PETCO store at 8501 Fletcher Parkway and demanded cash. After receiving an undisclosed sum, the man fled on foot and no vehicle was known to be involved.

La Mesa Blvd. Liquor Store Robbed by Gunman

LA MESA – Valentine’s Eve was not a sweet time for a local liquor store.

La Mesa police report a masked gunman walked into the Mart Liquor at 8695 La Mesa Boulevard and pointed a gun at the clerk. Police say the gunman – described as a 25-year-old white male, 6’ 2’’, 190 pounds with brown hair and blue eyes – demanded and received an undetermined amount of cash from the register and then asked for a pack of Camel Light cigarettes.

Katie the Missing Savannah Cat Has Been Found!

Katie, the Savannah cat that disappeared nearly two weeks ago from the Mount Helix home where she and her owner, Dr. Brigitte Cowell, were visiting, was found last night by an alert Mt. Helix neighbor. Katie and her saga gained media attention when she was featured on 10 News shortly after her escape. Motorcyclist Injured Wednesday in Lemon Avenue Accident

LA MESA -- La Mesa Police and Fire personnel responded to an accident call in the 8600 block of Lemon Avenue Wednesday where a motorcycle operator was injured.

Fire officials said details of the accident were not immediately available, but the motorcycle driver was transported to the hospital by medical transport. Helix High Gets Its Super Bowl Ring!

LA MESA - The Super Bowl occurred about as far away as you can get from the Jewel of the Hills, but the cheering for the New Orleans Saints was noticeably louder through town.

At the sports bars in downtown and in the living rooms throughout La Mesa, many locals were pulling for one of their own - Reggie Bush. In fact, several La Mesans were seen wearing Helix High colors on their way to super bowl parties.

Fine Art and A Fine Time at New Gallery

LA MESA - The boutiquing of downtown La Mesa continues in ways big and small.

Thursday night the evidence of this was in the form of a guitarist performing outside a new art gallery as fashionably dressed young couple sipped wine and talked art.

Small Problems, Big Hopes at Town Hall Meeting

MURRAY MANOR ELEMENTARY - The second and final town hall meeting was conducted here Thursday night and, once again, the issues raised by citizens were more numerous than substantial.

Woman Punched, Phone Robbed

NORMAL AVENUE – A La Mesa woman was struck in the face and had her cell phone robbed as she walked along the 7600 block of Normal Avenue on Tuesday afternoon.

Police said the woman was walking at about 1:27 p.m. and was texting on her phone when she was accosted by a black male adult who approached on foot from the opposite direction.
