LA MESA -- Bike riders can get some safety tips and motorists can find a DUI Checkpoint warning in this week's Weekly Crime Report below:
Case Highlights: On August 24, 2013, at approximately 11:30 PM, La Mesa Police were called to the emergency room at Alvarado Hospital to investigate a stabbing, associated with a robbery attempt in the 7500 block of El Cajon Boulevard, La Mesa. The victim suffered two stab wounds to his thigh and stomach during the incident, and his wounds are considered not life threatening.
The victim reported to police that this incident originally occurred at approximately 8:50 PM. At that time, the victim was waiting for a friend to give him a ride from the area of 7500 El Cajon Boulevard. The victim stated he was approached by two unknown subjects and a fight ensued over his property. The victim fought back his attackers and did not realize the suspects had stabbed him until after the altercation. The victim reported no property loss in the robbery attempt. The suspects were described by the victim as two Black males, possibly of Somali decent, both in their late teens or early twenties, one armed with a knife. The suspects were both wearing dark hooded sweatshirts and blue jeans. After the altercation, the victim reported seeing the suspects running east along El Cajon Boulevard from the scene. REMINDER: For the upcoming Labor Day weekend celebrations, August 31 through September 2nd, 2013, the La Mesa Police Department’s Traffic Unit is preparing to participate in extra DUI enforcement. La Mesa Police Department’s Traffic Unit will beef up their DUI enforcement efforts over that weekend’s celebrations. We will have several extra officers out on patrol to aggressively look for potentially impaired and distracted drivers. We urge the public to seek alternatives like using a designated driver, public transportation, taxis, etc. Please have a safe Labor Day weekend!
