Love where you live!
LA MESA -- Police, like much of the city of La Mesa, are gearing up for the annual Oktoberfest this weekend.
La Mesa Boulevard closes down early Friday and it will take local knowledge to navigate through the three-day event that draws thousands to enjoy brats, beer, music and merchandising along the city corridors.
This year's event begins at 11 a.m. Friday and ends at 5 p.m. Sunday. Friday and Saturday night the event closes for the day at 11:30 p.m.
The police and organizers are encouraging people to arrive by trolley, if possible, to reduce the parking crush in the area, but even the trolley riders will have to put up with the construction currently underway at the La Mesa Boulevard station.
On Saturday, 09/29/12 at approximately 6:05 AM, a male was robbed at knife-point in the 5200 block of Baltimore Drive. The victim was waiting at a bus stop when a gold-colored 4-door sedan traveling southbound on Baltimore Drive stopped in front of the bus bench. A male exited the front passenger seat and held a knife to the victim’s side while a female passenger in the vehicle grabbed the victim’s backpack. The male and female suspects got back into the vehicle, which was occupied by an additional male passenger and was driven by a second female. The suspects are described as:
Suspect #1: white or Hispanic male in his 30’s with a goatee and wearing a black hooded shirt or sweatshirt. This was the subject who brandished the knife.
Suspect #2: white or Hispanic female in her 30’s wearing a gold or similar color jacket. This was the subject who grabbed the victim’s property.
Suspect #3: white or Hispanic female who was driving the vehicle.
Suspect #4: white or Hispanic male who was a passenger in the vehicle.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400.
Oktoberfest will be held this weekend and parking around the downtown area will be tight. Please allow extra time when driving downtown and be patient with other drivers. If you plan to attend the Oktoberfest consider riding the trolley form another station to the La Mesa Trolley Station to avoid the traffic congestion.
