Traffic Flows -- And Slows -- Along The New 52

SANTEE -- The new span of State Road 52 opened this morning and, for residents living east and north of highway 67, getting to La Jolla or the Golden Triangle just got easier.

The virtual tour offered above showed the step by step travel on 52 West from the 67 was virtually effortless at 7:30 a.m. today until the junction with the 125 where backups seemed about normal. The backup on the 125, in fact, may have been a bit worse than normal. Once the 125 merged with the 52 West, traffic slowed from the 125 over the upgrade but the entrance from Mast Boulevard, usually a real slow spot, seemed improved.

The effects of a new road usually take a few days or weeks to manifest themselves as motorists experiment and recalculate their best routes. There was certainly room for more cars on the new spans of the 52 this morning and, perhaps, those backed up on the 125 north will eventually find other ways of joining the 52.

Residents gathered not long ago to celebrate the new road. See images here.
