Getting A Handle On A Hot Car Show
LA MESA -- The weekly Thursday night car show started slowly in the sweltering heat this week. Crowds and cars were in short supply early and those that did show grabbed the shade and waited for sunset.
With temperatures nearly in the triple digits, one local television station stopped by to do their San Diego weather report ("Sunny and warm'') from La Mesa Boulevard.
With smaller crowds, we took the opportunity to contemplate one of the little adornments that are part of virtually every car -- the door handle. What we found was that through the decades, this part of the car has been relatively uniform -- virtually unchanged from model to model. Arguably, the modern handles on the younger Mustangs (see photo below) that were featured in the 3rd Avenue Showcase were the most aesthetically pleasing -- one of the few times modern car makers seem to have outdone the earlier masters.
