Sun Tacos Celebrates Mexican Independence Day With Giveaway

JACKSON DRIVE -- Sun Tacos, the 24-hour Mexican drive through on Jackson Drive, is the unofficial night and day cafeteria for east La Mesa. On Thursday it became a bit more.

For months now the restaurant has been giving a free raffle ticket out with each order as part of a plan to celebrate Mexican Independence day. Thursday, three La Mesans with a taste for great Mexican food, got more than the tacos they usually order here.

City Councilman Mark Arapostathis arrived to pick the winning raffle tickets and the following customers can drive by and get their reward: David Ferreira, a 26-inch Hitachi TV; Jennifer Lezak, a portable DVD player; Brian Lauge, an Avatar CD.

Sun Tacos manager Frank Nichols will contact each winner today and arrange for prize pick ups. One particularly dedicated customer Ron Lenke, attended the drawing and brought along evidence of his many recent trips to Sun Tacos with a fistful of raffle receipts. He left without winning but did have another burrito.
