Spate of Robberies Continues; Circle K, Youth Hit

LA MESA – Police were investigating two robberies that occurred within thirty minutes of each other generally within the Village portion of La Mesa.

At 10:32 p.m. a juvenile was stopped by a group of five other youths near 4200 Spring Street after he was exiting the 7-Eleven store on Palm Avenue. The youths forced the victim to empty his pocket and took his cell phone. The suspects were described as black males ranging in age from 15 to 20. Three of the youths had a thin build and one was described as wearing a purple and black bandana and a purple and black long sleeve shirt with black jeans.

The second incident occurred at about 11 p.m. at the Circle K store at 8899 La Mesa Boulevard. A black male suspect entered the store, flashed a black revolver and demanded money. The clerk placed an undisclosed sum into a light blue pillow case that the suspect handed him.

The suspect demanded the clerk open the safe, but the clerk was unable to access the safe. The suspect then fled on foot westbound toward Daley Court.

The suspect is still at large. He was described as an adult, in his 20s, approximately 6-2 and about 150 pounds with a thin build. He was wearing a dark jacket with a white T-shirt underneath, dark jeans and white shoes.

The Circle K robbery is the latest in a string of robberies in areas with easy access to I-8 or the 125. A liquor store and a Petco outlet have been hit recently not far from this Circle K. And just yesterday, Pier 1 Imports at Grossmont Center suffered a morning robbery.

Police are again asking for help in solving these crimes. Anyone with information on either of these incidents should call the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400. You may also call Crime Stoppers’ anonymous toll-free tip line at (888) 580-TIPS (or You can remain anonymous and be eligible for a reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to arrest in either of these cases.
