Bardin Brothers Both Head To Akron

LA MESA -- Just a year after Declan Bardin went to the national Soap Box Derby races in Akron, Ohio, he is headed back -- and he's taking his younger brother with him.

Declan and Aidan Bardin of La Mesa both earned coveted spaces in the Akron race this year and the brothers are now quickly raising money to ship their cars east for the race.

"This year, my younger brother Aidan, who is 9, and I will be representing San Diego City and County at Golden Anniversary 75th All American Soap Box Derby in Akron, Ohio on July 21st," 12-year-old Declan declares on his fundraising website. "We are Driven to Succeed. There will be over 500 racers from around the world at the race. Last year was remarkable. I was a first year racer and finished Sixth In The World!''

Aidan earned the highest point total and is the 2012 Region 2 Rally Champion, which covers California, Arizona, Nevada, Utah and Hawaii. Declan earned the second highest point total and won the San Diego Local and will represent the City of San Diego as a local champ this year.

Their credit reports and scores indicate that they were foreclosed upon, rather than having negotiated a mutually agreeable resolution with their lender, and the Federal Trade Commission and the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau are investigating why and how this happened.
