Seniors Keeping Track Of Health News

LA MESA -- The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host a free senior discussion group presentation on “Top Health News Stories of 2013,” from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 26. The public is invited to attend, and RSVP is not required. The speaker will be Kathy Quinn, Herrick Library director.

The discussion on Feb. 26 will cover the topics that made headlines last year, including revised cholesterol and blood pressure guidelines, disease outbreaks, the effectiveness of vitamins and supplements, the new edition of the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-5) and the controversy over e-cigarettes.

Quinn, with a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Dominican University in the Chicago area, has been director of the Herrick Library since 2007.

The Herrick Library, which opened in 2002, is a consumer health public library specializing in health research information, accessible both on-site and via the Internet. The library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County.
