We are a group of neighbors organizing to ask the City to continue existing requirements to build a sound wall along the freeway that we were promised between Garfield Avenue and SR-125, along what was formerly known as "Moening's Nursery."

It was agreed to by the Developer as one of the conditions required by the City when the "La Mesa Meadows" PRD project was approved, who is now asking the City to drop this requirement.

Please check out our website at http://www.GarfieldNeighborhood.com . It explains our concerns, how to sign our petition, as well as where, when and how to contact the Planning Commission.

We are also looking for volunteers to help us circulate our petition.

And, please, please pass this along as you think might be helpful to support our neighborhood!

Many thanks in advance,

Gary King, Kristin Kjaero, Mary Putnam

It was part of the conditions required by the City and agreed to by the Developer at two public hearings in 2006, before the Planning Commission and then City Council. So it is recorded in the minutes and resolutions of those meetings.

However, the developer has asked to come before the Planning Commission (tentatively on April 6), to request that requirement be dropped.

I've a couple questions:  When was this "promise" made and with whom? Was it written or a verbal "promise"? What government officials were present when this "promise" was made? And finally, do you REALLY thinka verbal promise made to government and plain ole, unwashed, "they don't really count so tell 'em anything" citizens/voters will mean anything? Good luck on a petition and good luck getting your City Council to get your wall built .  David Stanley

Though they have since moved within the last year, my sister and her kids lived on Garfield for about 10 years. I will pass this along to them in case they still have contacts in the area...
