LA MESA – Police Saturday night made some quick progress in combating the recent spate of car break-ins.
Police received a call at about 11:30 p.m. that a car had been broken into on Echo Drive, a street not far from downtown La Mesa that runs near highway 125.
A La Mesa woman told police a Filipino male had broken the passenger window of her vehicle and ran from the area carrying property stolen from the car.
The victim’s boyfriend followed the suspect, ultimately detaining him until police arrived. Police said the suspect still had the victim’s property in his possession.
Police conducted a quick lineup and the victim was able to identify the suspect.
Police arrested 19-year-old Sokin Roberts of La Mesa. He was charged with burglary and possession of stolen property.
Police are continuing to look for a small, two-door green or gray sedan that left the area at the same time the suspect was running away.
