Some Super La Mesa Football Choices
LA MESA -- So here's the truth about what the Super Bowl has become: Football is the sideshow.
All over America -- and all over La Mesa -- we gather in groups of avocado slurping and chicken wing eating groups and, with the exception of those with some emotional attachment to the two teams, the rest of us don't really care.
We chat with friends or fight with family and every once in a while someone with a case of Pigskin Obsessive Cumpulsive Disorder cheers above the din that a highlight has occurred.
So let's assume you want to see the game, but your brother-in-law won't shut up or the constant passing of the wings is too distracting, here are some ideas for things to do that allow the game to stay front and center.
Here's the best seat in the house at Centifonti's, La Mesa Village eatery. Centifonti's is offering a Super Bowl Special, a burger with jalapeno chips and a beer for $10.
Or you can head east:
Yes, it is the year of the dragon and the Dragon room of the Golden Palace on University Avenue is offering barbecue, raffles and other Chinese New Year treats during the game.
You could also go to the traditional sportsbar kind of places like:
Or if you are on a tight budget, this is what we really recommend:
Drive over to Costco on Fletcher where this man, Mr. Tucker, has promised us he will tune the 10 acres of high definition TV screens to the game.
And then during the very long commercial breaks you can visit these ladies. You should be able to do what we call Sunday Brunch At Costco: a stop at each of the food sample stations.
