Oktoberfest Off To A Vibrant Start

LA MESA -- Oktoberfest 2013 started Friday in a nice, calm way with perfect weather and merchants tents that reached from Acacia all the way to 4th Street along La Mesa Boulevard.

The highlight of the day was clearly the opening of the Cohn Restaurant -- Bo-beau Kitchen + Garden -- with its expansive outdoor patio virtually filled from the 4 p.m. opening on.

There was increased security, particularly around the fountain area near the trolley station, where teen behavior problems had arisen in the past. No signs of that this year.

Oh yeah, the event was so calm this year the police didn't even need to use their armored truck. It's sure a good thing the kiddie rides were done away with. Could have been a disaster otherwise. Perhaps our state legislature should impose "kiddie ride control". No kiddie rides with a capacity of over 10 passengers and no kiddie rides with detachable cars would be a good start.
