Planing on hosting brunch this weekend!  Here's my favorite French Toast recipe that is sure to have your guests wanting more.

Baked French Toast

Preheat oven to 350

Grease a 3-quart baking dish with 3 Tbl of melted butter

Cut one, 1-pound challah loaf ( this is a Jewish braided bread, but any thick cut egg bread will do) into 1-inch-thick slices and lay them in the dish, overlapping like shingles.

Whisk together the following in a large (Fiestaware) bowl, just kidding!

6 large eggs,

1 1/2 cups milk,

2 Tbl sugar,

1/4 cup maple syrup,

1/2 tsp vanilla, pinch of salt,

and grated nutmeg

Ladle the mixture over the bread, making sure it goes in between the slices.  Let it sit for 5 minutes so the bread absorbs the liquid. ( you can do this the night before and leave it covered in the frig, but let it sit out for 20 minutes before baking)

Bake for 40 to 50 minutes, until the top is golden.  Sprinkle with confectioners' sugar and scatter 1 cup of fresh berries (raspberries are the best) on top.  Serve with real maple syrup.

Hope you like it...
