Mother Goose Again To Dominate East County

EL CAJON -- One of the family friendly weekend choices in East County this week is the annual extravaganza known as The Mother Goose Parade.

Rain or shine! The 66th Annual Mother Goose Parade begins this Sunday, November 18th, at 10:00 a.m. on Main Street in downtown El Cajon. The theme of this year’s parade is the El Cajon Centennial!

This San Diego favorite is the largest parade in the county and the largest of its type west of the Mississippi. The parade features over one hundred colorful and exciting parade entries from cities throughout the United States. Spectators will be treated to a line-up of spectacular floats, television stars, local dignitaries, marching bands, equestrians, clowns, giant helium balloons, specialty vehicles and Santa Claus. Every parade entry is specially selected to bring enjoyment to children and adults alike. This will be a memorable Holiday event for the whole family.

This year’s Grand Marshal is El Cajon Mayor Mark Lewis! Additional celebrities include the San Diego Chicken; Shotgun Tom Kelly; Evan Hofer, who plays Randy on Disney’s XD’s Kickin’ It; Lexi DiStefano, who played the role of Elle in A Cinderella Tale; Danika Yarosh, who just finished filming “Tar”with Mila Kunis and James Franco and has also been seen in Law and Order SVU and 30 Rock; and Austin Anderson from Nickelodeon. Various local radio personalities will also be riding in the parade.

After the parade, visit the Mother Goose Village at the Prescott Promenade in downtown El Cajon where more fun family entertainment is planned.

Street closures surrounding the parade route will begin at 7:00 a.m. for staging, and 30 minutes before the parade the parade route itself will close along E. Main Street from Sunshine Avenue to Second Street, and Second Street down to Madison Avenue.

The Mother Goose Parade Association is a California nonprofit public benefit corporation dedicated to promoting higher education. The Association awards scholarships and pushes the boundaries of higher education through its personal growth programs and workshops. The 2012 Board President is Debbie Norman.
