Love where you live!
The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host a free senior discussion group program titled “Lifestyle Choices for a Brain Healthy Life,” from 10 to 11 a.m. on Wednesday, July 23. The public is invited to attend and RSVP is not required. The speaker will be Pat Mosteller, professor and past coordinator of the older adult program with the San Diego Community College District. Mosteller has researched the relationship between education and cognitive health in older adults based on brain plasticity and neurogenesis.
The discussion on July 23 will include tips on how to keep your brain sharp, quick and responsive for years to come by making some simple changes to your lifestyle. Researchers say that mental decline conditions, including dementia and Alzheimer’s disease, can be avoided or postponed by applying brain-training strategies that keep brains stronger and healthier longer. Just like physical fitness, brain fitness can slow, or even turn back, the aging clock.
