Kiwanis Awards College Scholarships

LA MESA -- Recognizing academic achievement, leadership skills, community service and financial need, the La Mesa Kiwanis Foundation this month awarded $12.000 in college scholarships to graduating seniors at Grossmont, Helix and Chaparral High Schools.

Winners of this year’s Kiwanis Scholarships are:

Grossmont High School

Over the past 30 years, the La Mesa Kiwanis Foundation has awarded nearly $500,000 in scholarships to East County students. Funds for the Chaparral students are designated from the Chubby Sykes Memorial Trust held by the foundation.

Founded in 1940 and dedicated to community service, the Kiwanis Club of La Mesa celebrated its 75th Anniversary earlier this year. Club meetings are held twice a month, the 2nd and 4th Thursdays at 5:30 pm, at Marie Callender’s Restaurant & Bakery located at 70th Street and Interstate 8 in La Mesa.
