Probing The Color Of Stress

LA MESA -- The Grossmont Healthcare District’s Dr. William C. Herrick Community Health Care Library, 9001 Wakarusa St. in La Mesa, will host a free program on “Coloring for Stress Relief” from 10 to 11 a.m., Wednesday, Feb. 22. The program is part of the library’s “Wellness Wednesday” series, normally held on the fourth Wednesday of the month. Admission is free. Light refreshments will be served. Advance RSVP is not necessary. Handouts will be available.

Speaker at the program will be Kathy Quinn, Herrick Library director. “Do you remember how fun it was to color when you were a child? Well, coloring is now all grown up,” said Quinn. “Adult coloring books continue to provide enjoyment and relaxation. Join us to give this stress-relieving activity a try. We will provide pages to color as well as colored pencils and markers, but feel free to bring your own supplies if you have them. The light mental focus required for coloring promotes mindfulness and calmness, which can help reduce stress. Coloring together is a great activity.”

Quinn, with a master’s degree in Library and Information Science from Dominican University in the Chicago area, has served as director of the Herrick Library since 2007.

The Herrick Library, which opened in 2002, is a consumer health public library specializing in health research information, accessible both on-site and via the Internet. The library is operated by the Grossmont Healthcare District, a public agency that supports health-related community programs and services in San Diego’s East County. For more information, phone the library at (619) 825‑5010 or visit www.herricklibrary.org.
