Love where you live!
LA MESA -- The La Mesa Library will be celebrating a love of food and cooking with their first annual Food For Thought Festival, Saturday, March 14, from 10:30am-2:00pm. This free event will feature three local food experts in fields ranging from brewing homemade beer to Moroccan cooking; the event will also have activities for young children and teens. Deana Gunn, co-author of the popular Cooking with Trader Joe’s series will discuss quick and healthy recipes using foods from the popular grocery chain, as well as share samples of some of her recipes.
Kitty Morse (photo right), author of Mint Tea and Minarets, will discuss her travels and culinary history, as well as demonstrate preparation of a popular Moroccan dish for the audience to try. George Thornton, co-owner of San Diego’s “The Homebrewer” shop will discuss how to brew your own homemade beer.
Activities for the younger set will include a lesson in making Japanese onigri (rice ball snacks) for teenagers, and children can have fun with the antics of Free Spirit the Clown. In addition, the library will have many books and DVDs about cooking, food and healthy eating available for checkout to anyone with a San Diego County Library card.
