A Night Out To Celebrate Safety

LA MESA -- On Tuesday, August 6th, the City of La Mesa will participate in the annual National Night Out event. Every August, Neighborhood Watch groups organize fun and informative community events with their neighbors and friends to promote crime prevention and strengthen police and community partnerships. Members of the La Mesa Police Department and City officials will meet with these groups to share information and field questions about neighborhood and city concerns.

Anyone can participate by visiting National Night Out Central at Grossmont Center in the north Target Store parking lot from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on August 6th for the second Annual Emergency Preparedness Fair. This family friendly event is an informative and interactive way to learn how to prepare for a disaster.

La Mesa Police Officers and Heartland Fire & Rescue Firefighters will be on hand to interact with kids and give tours of emergency vehicles. The La Mesa Police Department will also be offering free child fingerprinting. Target, the National Night Out sponsor, is generously providing free BBQ to attendees. Additional participants include Jamba Juice, the San Diego County Aging and Independence Services, Farmers Insurance, SDG&E, and Costco. For more information, call 619.667.7545

Neighborhood Watch can be a good thing. The theory being, when you are away from home someone is watching your property, hopefully to prevent crime. BUT, perhaps now, in light of what has happened in Florida, we should re-examine this program? Now, should a suspected white person venture into the area and appear to be "casing" homes for burglaries you're alright. BUT, if a black person is doing the same thing you are now expected to turn away because to do anything else, to even suspect that person of anything nefarious will brand you a RACIST! Remember: "Appeasement" is the word of the day now. Do not open yourselves up to criminal or civil action by approaching or even thinking a black person is capable of criminal activities. Do not become a victim yourself. Do not suffer the ire of Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson or MSNBC by even contacting any suspicious black person in your neighborhood!! Also remember, Eric Holder and president Obama are also watching YOU!
