Love where you live!
LA MESA -- La Mesa's Vietnam Memorial is wedged in near the trolley lines and hard against a busy city street. It is not an easy place to grow plants in the heat and, from time to time, it needs some tender loving care.
This weekend, that care came from a consortium of city leaders and high school students.
Students from Helix Charter High, Grossmont and Lutheran High joined City Councilman Ernie Ewin and leaders of several city commissions including the Aging and Veterans Commission. The group is moving the memorial toward more hearty succulents and had professional advice to help clean the tarnishing plaques that adorn the monument. The cross and helmet on top are now sporting a fresh coat of paint as well.
