La Mesans Gather For Historic Photo
GROSSMONT CENTER -- La Mesans started lining up before sunrise Saturday to be part of the city's "Human 100" historic photo.
The roof of the Grossmont Center parking garage was transformed into a morning festival with coffee, bagels and music.
A happy gathering of more than 400 men, women and children gathered and filled out the form that had been plotted by organizers. They talked and visited, sipping coffee and waiting for the helicopter that would fly from Gillespie Field and hover for moments to capture the scene.
KUSI-TV captured the scene live and recorded what had to be the largest "Good Morning La Mesa'' ever heard in the Jewel of the Hills. That cheer (see video below) will grace a future KUSI morning show segment. Official photos taken from the helicopter will be available for purchase on the city's centennial website within a few days.
The photo session was the second major Centennial event of the week and drew citizens from throughout the city. The entire City Council was present as were DJs from KSON radio who conducted raffles throughout the morning.
Starbucks supplied coffee to ward off the early morning chill, but by photo time at 8:30 a.m. the sun had burned off an early morning fog and jackets gave way to the red t-shirts that dominated the photos.
