Centennial Will Be Off To A Rolling Start
LA MESA -- The La Mesa Centennial will officially arrive by rail.
The Centennial organizing committee this week sent out invitations to sponsors and VIPs to join the City Council members as they ride a special MTS trolley at 3 p.m. Feb. 14 from the Grossmont trolley stop to the La Mesa Village where the centennial year will be officially kicked off at a special City Council meeting and reception.
The Centennial trolley will be wrapped with a special commemorative design that will stay on the Orange Line trolley throughout the centennial year. MTS and the city are not revealing the exact trolley wrap design until the day of the ceremonial ride, but it is expected to feature historic photos of early La Mesa.
Centennial events and publicity will be picking up in the next two weeks as the official start of the centennial year begins. The East County Californian and LaMesaToday.com have partnered to produce a 20-page special centennial publication that will publish Feb. 2 and be distributed with the Californian.
