Holidays Off To An Early, Scenic Start
LA MESA -- Shoppers camped out in front of stores promising great savings for the early shoppers with stores opening at 5 a.m. to greet the bargain hunters.
The operators of Grossmont Center continued its 50th Anniversary Year unveiling stunning holiday decorations that make the center a virtual winter wonderland -- without the inconvenient snow and ice.
The landscaping at the center was transformed to evoke the holidays while continuing to pay homage to the 1960s, the decade the center was built.
And, of course, Santa was on the scene at Grossmont with the traditional ritual of persuading young children to sit on the lap of a strange, elderly man and tell him secret wishes. Most parents were winning and photo packages were selling fast.
At nightfall, shoppers took a rest from bargain hunting to gather around the Grossmont Center Christmas tree for a ritual lighting, accompanied by the Salvation Army Band and surrounded by young holiday dancers and their doting mothers. It was, in many way, a scene right out of Currier & Ives. See Videos below.
