New Jack In The City

LA MESA -- Hungry travelers looking for a drive-thru burger on Jackson Drive have been a bit disappointed these days.
The Jack in the Box near La Mesa Boulevard is getting a face lift that will include better indoor and outdoor seating. Construction is fully underway and the restaurant should be up and running again soon.
In the meantime, you can park nearby and hit the new Hills Pub and restaurant just around the corner.
The Hills has been doing big business, attracting many of its loyal customers from Lakeside to celebrate this new tavern and its reasonably priced bar food. Noise from a full house has brought some kvetching from neighbors, but the windows are being closed in the evening to reduce the noise. You might say the neighbors want to be sure these Hills aren't alive with the sound of music -- at least not too late.

You know I just remembered. I tried one of those vegan/vegetarian places down on 5th Ave some years back. I think it was called The Vegetarian Zone or something like that. I was expecting fresh vegetables, what I got was pre-packaged, preservative-laden slop! It was terrible! We have enough pre-packaged, preservative-laden slop in La Mesa already with J in the B, thank you very much.

I don't know what you guys are worried about. J in the B puts so little meat on their burgers they are virtually vegan anyway.

Thank you David.

It makes me nervous when I read what people think we should do. If you have thought about it, and it works for you and you want to do something go ahead, more power to you. This is America.

I have no idea what Michael had in mind to encourage vegan establishments, but sometimes these personal vendettas involve the participation of our local government. Things like City proclamations and endorsements of " Vegan month in La Mesa" and such . Or worse, certification of certain establishments over others as was proposed last year in with the Fair Trade proclamation debacle.

We is a big word.

Couple of comments here: First-I had/have several friends at the Jack in the Box and enjoyed brief visits and a "Hello" almost daily for my cup of their pretty good coffee. Hard working folks there. I was disappointed to learn of their closing but happy to learn that they would be back in June for my daily cup of coffee and Hello. Second, regarding the Vegan thing, I concur with Mr. George. "WHY"? Why must or should we press for some fringe operation just because a wee group elect to pose and shout "Look at me" by their odd dietary habits? Those that cant or wont eat like regular folks should go where their ilk gather to rub against one another and pose for them, not the rest of us.

Michael, three questions:

Who is we?

How?

Why?

Order a salad, and hold the dressing. Done!

We should be encouraging vegan restaurants to open in La Mesa.
