Volunteers Welcomed For Village Lighting Effort

LA MESA -- The earliest sign of the holidays coming to the Jewel of the Hills is the sight of John Vigil and his band of helpers spending Saturday morning stringing Christmas lights through the trees along La Mesa Boulevard.
Vigil heads this effort each year for the La Mesa Village Merchants Association and then, eventually, he leads the Christmas in the Village parade in top hat and tails. He and his supporting cast are spending every Saturday morning from 7 a.m. to 11 a.m. working his way down the boulevard. Volunteers and needed and welcomed.
Just meet up Saturday mornings near Palm and La Mesa Boulevard to pitch in.
"We do the trees first and then we'll start in on the buildings,'' Vigil bellowed from his perch. "We'll keep doing it right up to Christmas.''

The Christmas Season is the prettiest time of the year in the Village. I make it a point to visit very often during the evenings because of the lights. Whilst my wife maintains I am stupid, I feel it should be the law that Christmas lights be displayed in certain places year round. How can one frown when looking up at the sparkling lights and tinsel?
