Love where you live!
LA MESA -- On a cold morning -- the kind that tries the souls of we delicate Californians -- there were still signs that this bitter winter will give way to spring.
At Cosmos Cafe, Ari Bejar, the proprietor, could be seen installing new umbrellas for his outdoor cafe seating.
What do you think of the color?

Comment by chris shea on March 7, 2013 at 11:42am You know, the beautiful thing about umbrellas is that no matter who we are, we can all sit beneath one and enjoy the beautiful shade of La Mesa. While our political differences might well be vast, we must as a society, as a community, find areas of agreement so that bitterness and rancor don't end up snuffing out the kind hellos of neighbors strolling past Cosmos.
Comment by David Stanley on March 6, 2013 at 12:14pm Yeah, Chris, my numbers were perhaps far too low. That said, however, I think maybe it is indeed that slightly different attitude and mental state that keeps Californians to any degree sane considering the government we must endure. Whilst Texas will always be the desired state for me, California has been my home, and happily, for many decades. And - the Village of La Mesa far preferred to most other places.
Comment by chris shea on March 6, 2013 at 11:07am I like the color. I think it looks great against the Cosmos Cafe blue.
And as for David's comment that we Californians are three quarters nuts, I think that number is a little low. And I am proud of my 100% nut heritage. It makes life way more interesting, don't you think?
It's the nuttiness that makes people from all over the world flock here.
Comment by David Stanley on March 6, 2013 at 7:05am Whilst sweltering in extreme heat (California heat, of course, is nothing compared to most other parts of the globe) I often long for these types of days and this kind of weather. I watch and listen to Californians moan and complain about the rain when most of our state is gasping for water relief. I wonder at their sanity then remember: They are Californians and therefore about three quarters nuts anyway. Daily, I drive through our village and admire the colourful umbrellas set up at restaurants and such and think to myself: This weather is heaven and I wish we had more of it. Oh sure, we could move to another state and enjoy "their" weather but then that would mean leaving "my" village. Nope. Think I will just "suffer" through this nasty ole cool weather we are having and continue to enjoy daily village life.

Some homes are slow to sell even in the hottest markets
With full-fledged sellers’ markets underway in dozens of metropolitan areas around the country, new research has found curious statistical patterns emerging: Even in cities where listings get multiple offers within days or hours, significant numbers of homes are sitting on the market for six months, 12 months, or more with no takers. Among the reasons: Mispricing, excessive restrictions on access to buyers and agents, failure to clean or make repairs, and a variety of other marketing bungles. Read the full story.
