New Coffee Shop Near Mt. Helix
LA MESA -- Residents on the eastern edges of La Mesa have a new neighborhood coffee choice.
After a long renovation, which included re-doing portions of the parking lot, Bugsy's Brew has opened at the southwest corner of Jackson Drive and La Mesa Boulevard. It bookends the eastern end of the little plaza where a new, neighborhood 7-11 is being constructed.
The new coffee shop, which will be open until 4 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays and later into the evening from mid-week on, features, coffee, teas, danish and a comfortable table and a living room set up that gives good view of the flat screen TV that looms over the cool, dark interior. Free wi-fi is available and, given the comfortable setting, you can expect to see laptop sorts setting up shop for the morning. Music performances will be part of the business as well.
Bugsy's propri etor, Dan Moran (pictured right), a distant relative of the Chicago man that made the name 'Bugsy' so famous, said he hopes to add staff as the business picks up and he hopes to add outside, cafe seating to take advantage of the San Diego's weather. With the Lunch Basket next door and the new 7-11 at the opposite end, the Jackson/La Mesa Boulevard corner should be taking on new life.
