Bo-beau Welcoming La Mesa Diners

LA MESA -- After a soft opening Tuesday night, the Cohn Restaurant Group's newest effort -- Bo-beau Kitchen + Garden -- is welcoming all comers tonight.

In a matter of just months, the group has transformed the former Gingham Restaurant space into a French bistro setting that is both large enough for a big crowd, but with intimate spaces for quiet outings as well.

The opening of a new restaurant of this size and scale is clearly a team endeavor, but this team is being led by Manager Michelle Kveen and Chef Benjamin Moore, photographed above just before opening on Tuesday afternoon.

Restaurants rise and fall on their food, atmosphere and consistent execution, but because of this restaurant's location, in the heart of La Mesa's beloved Village, there is a palpable sense that the residents of the Jewel of the Hills are hoping the Cohn's can bring their company magic to this new endeavor.

The menu looks interesting and I'm definitely going to try out some of items offered.  The drinks sound new and exciting too.

I haven't been yet, but I looked at the menu...what's not "affordable" about it? Or I suppose, what constitutes "affordable"? Almost all the entrees are under $20. Considering the quality of the ingredients (something I want when I go out to eat) that seems very reasonable compared to downtown prices. Great food costs money. I suppose if you don't want to pay you can stick with Denny's or IHOP but I for one welcome the new place and I can't wait to try it!

Now, I have not had the opportunity to eat here yet but do I sense something not quite right here? "...several affordable things on the menu ..." and "...their promise of affordable .. menu items isnt a reality ..."??? Is this, could this be yet another high priced restaurant in the area that touts great food but also attaches very high prices thinking those prices may attract a higher class of clientelle? I hope not but a couple of comments seem to imply that. Will have to drop by for a meal to see. Sure hope not.

It was a wonderful meal in a lovely setting last night.  There are several affordable things on the menu and even the kids menu looked great for those with families.  The Cohn's have the experience and the proven track record to make this the centerpiece for dining in The Village.  A standing ovation for the staff, management, and owners!

Sad that their promise of affordable, family friendly menu items isn't a reality again for this space.

Great news, but a bit sad to not see Chicken Fricasse on the menu!

The restaurant is wonderful.  Atmosphere is divine and so is the food.  The staff could not be more accommodating.  It's a pleasure to know that this excellent establishment is now in our village.

I couldn't be happier!
