COMMUNITY CENTER -- For an hour Thursday night, the La Mesa Community Center will take a step back in time. The La Mesa Arts Alliance is once again hosting its annual fundraiser with a live performance of some of America's most beloved radio shows.

Performers with 1940s and '50s scripts from Burns and Allen, The Bickersons and Ozzie and Harriet will take the audience behind the scenes to see how the pre-TV entertainment in a simpler time played out in radio studios. The performance will come complete with sound effects and radio commercials. Dr. Mark Arapostathis, who heads the Peter Pan Junior Theater, is lending his talents to this production, including performing.

Beyond pure entertainment, the show can give children a feel for life in America in the years before "the boob tube'' came to dominate evening life.

"Radio Daze. . .again'' begins with a reception at 6 p.m. at the Community Center on Memorial Drive with the curtain rising at 7 p.m. Admission is $10 per person. Current La Mesa Arts Alliance members get free admission and snacks. Membership is $25 or $40 per family.
