Good Arts Choices Abound

LA MESA -- This is a particularly arts filled weekend in La Mesa with a variety of selections from the fine arts to the popular music scene and outdoor concerts.

You can start Saturday afternoon by stopping by the petite but sweet Foothills Porter Hall Gallery for an Artist's Reception featuring July's artist of the month, Georgina Clemens. One of her paintings is shown above.

The gallery is located right at the junction where La Mesa Boulevard and University Avenue meet on Memorial Drive. The reception is from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Recycling Space, Art And Time

Just a few hours later, at 6:30 p.m., local artist and arts advocate Midge Hyde is hosting an artist's reception at her Biz Center Art gallery at 7317 El Cajon Boulevard, in La Mesa. The reception, called Life Recycling, will also feature a special presentation of the La Mesa Centennial Legacy Project and its artists Jess and Mary Lynn Dominguez.

Trouble With Betty

Just after 8 p.m., the Parkway Bar, a tavern located in the Michael's and Souplantation shopping center along Fletcher Parkway, will be hosting the popular local rock band Trouble With Betty. The Parkway management has been aggressively supporting the visual and performing arts with occasional live painting exhibitions and more frequent popular music. It is located at 9188 Fletcher Parkway.

Jazz West Comes East

And Sunday evening, the popular Sundays at Six Concert series continues in Harry Griffen Park, this week featuring Jazz West. Just to be clear, the Sundays at Six Concerts begin -- Sundays at 6 p.m. Bring a chair!
