It Only Takes A Moment

By Helen Givens

LA MESA -- I have attended La Mesa city council meetings regularly for seventeen years.  I sit in the very back and listen and learn. My mission is to report city happenings to the homeowner's association of the condominium in which I live.

La Mesa is a true jewel of the hills and those of us who live here are fortunate and have much to thankful for.

There is little recognition that we have a city manager form of government. We are blessed with a talented, dedicated city manager, Dave Witt and he, in turn, is surrounded by a superb staff. These are the folks who keep the city on track and growing.

At this holiday season how about a  sincere, heartfelt thank you to these people? A pat on the back to those who make La Mesa the jewel that it is.

And while we are giving heartfelt thanks we should not forget all of the citizens who work in the private sector, with less job security and more modest benefits, who pay the taxes that provide the generous salaries and benefits our public sector employees receive. My heartfelt thanks to them as well.

Very well stated.  La Mesa is indeed a "jewel," thanks to the efforts of those who help manage it.  Thanks!
