In 2001, following the tragic events of September 11th, I designed a new greeting card.  It had a fire fighter, a police officer and a paramedic on the front.  The five thousand I had printed ultimately sold out, but I wish I had kept a few...

In my style of art I seldom draw grown-ups, so these three professions were depicted as kids as if they were paying dress-up.

"Pretend we're police and firefighters and paramedics…"

The text of the card read,

"Not all heroes wear capes…and not all angels have wings."

I was thinking about that card on Saturday when I heard about the shooting in our little village here in La Mesa.  My heart broke for all involved.  And I thought about the police officers and all they do to protect our lives and our property on a daily basis.  What a dangerous job they do. Every single day.

And it really is true.

"Not all heroes wear capes…"

Some wear badges instead.

Jim, I do not take the military for granted in the slightest.
My blog was specifically focused on the La Mesa
event last week.
I actually also have a card I have donated to
military families.
It has a tiny sketch of a middle America town

The text reads,
God has blessed America...
...with people like you.
