Mustang Clubs Celebrate 50 With The Flag

LA MESA -- One of the most enjoyable days in the Jewel of the Hills each year is the day when all differences are put aside in favor of patriotism -- The Flag Day Parade.

On Saturday, May 31st beginning at 9:00 a.m., downtown La Mesa Village will dress up in red, white and blue to celebrate “A Salute to Old Glory!” at the La Mesa Flag Day Parade.
The festivities kick off at 9:00 a.m. with pre-parade concerts by La Mesa Middle and Parkway Middle Schools. At 10:00 a.m. the parade led by the United States 3d Marine Aircraft Wing Band starts through downtown La Mesa Village. Enjoy this year’s Grand Marshal celebration of the Ford Mustang 50th Anniversary. View the many floats, military vehicles, active and retired war heroes, equestrian units, service clubs, and youth groups.

This year the City of La Mesa is honored to have the First Class Petty Officers Association from Tactical Training Group Pacific carry our community Living Flag to conclude the parade. Spectators are encouraged to dress in patriotic attire and cheer on the participants in this annual parade.
After the parade, join the La Mesa’s Human Relations Advisory Commission for ice cream, see classic and new Mustang cars, and talk to the car owners at Palm Avenue and La Mesa Boulevard. La Mesa welcomes all County residents and their families to share in this free and fun event!
In addition to donations from community members, the La Mesa Flag Day Parade is sponsored by Barona Resort & Casino, Drew Ford, La Mesa Community Welfare Association, Inc., Park Station, Rainbow Investment Company & The Cushman Family, Sycuan Band of the Kumeyaay Nation, Anthony’s Fish Grotto, and Brady So Cal.
For more information visit or call the Parade hotline at 619-667-1172. To see images from last year's event, see video below.

This is such a wonderful day every year.  I look forward to watching every moment of it.  My mother and dad used to watch it together and now when I stand with my mom near Por Favor as the parade passes by,  I just know my dad is right along side us enjoying it and saying "Such Happiness..."  I hope all those involved have a ball. (My favorite of all is the synchronized library carts, having  a son and daughter-in-law who are librarians.)  Too fun!
