Heartland Fire worked to put out a 2-alarm fire at the Rodeway Inn on Spring Street early Tuesday morning, Heartland Fire said.

The fire was reported at 4:42 a.m. at the hotel at 4210 Spring Street. Firefighters arrived a few minutes later. Multiple fire engines worked to put out the fire and the hotel was evacuated.

Flames taller than the building itself shot from the attic and could be seen for miles.  Heartland Fire evacuated 17 occupied rooms and no injuries were reported, according to Heartland Fire.

Firefighters managed to get a handle on the fire and knock down a majority of the flames around 5:20 a.m. Small pockets of flames continued to burn through the roof until around 6 a.m.

Spring Street was shut down in both directions as crews battled the blaze and lanes remained closed throughout the morning. 20 people were reportedly displaced by the fire and the Red  Cross was expected to arrive at the hotel to assist.

The cause of the fire remained  under investigation.
