Looking At Fair Trade Chocolate

LA MESA -- Fair Trade La Mesa continues on its educational mission with another Fair Trade Thursday meeting at Cosmos Coffee Cafe this week.

This meeting, which starts at 7 p.m., Thursday, April 19, will follow up on last month's ice-cream topic with another sweet one. The group will be tracing the origins of chocolate in the American economy and identifying sources of "fair trade" chocolate. And yes, organizers say, there will be free samples.

Cosmos is located on La Mesa Boulevard just east of Spring Street.

Does the Fair Trade organization only focus on goods coming into the USA? Does it also cover services? What is the position regarding service and goods originating outside the USA that although fair to the local workers throughout the rest of the world, are undercutting USA companies and thus causing loss of jobs here?
