Baber, Turner Re-elected In La Mesa
The voters across the state approved a proposition designed to raise revenues to support education and obviate the need for more draconian cuts in education budgets already cut into bone.
It was clear in the vote of the residents of the La Mesa/Spring Valley School District that the voters were not blaming the current officeholders on the board for the district's problems. Emma Turner and Bill Baber, both long-serving incumbents on that board, were re-elected easily over a challenger who campaigned for change. (See vote chart below)
“The results show that our community has confidence in our School Board’s focus
on improving test scores and protecting taxpayers. I am honored by
the support of the voters. I want to thank all the volunteers who walked
precincts, donated money, signed post cards, and made phone calls for this
In the Grossmont Union High School District, Priscilla Schreiber was the top vote getter and Jim Steiringer edged out Gary Woods for second place.
