Gunman Hits Sam's Market

UNIVERSITY AVENUE -- Police are investigating an armed robbery that occurred Friday night at Sam's Market on University Avenue.

Police said that at about 9:30 p.m. a man entered the market at 7587 University and brandished a small dark colored handgun with a brown handle. The suspect pointed the handgun at the clerk and stated, “Give me the money.” The clerk complied with the suspect's demands, giving him the cash from the register. The suspect fled the scene on foot and was last seen southbound on Parks Avenue.

Officers searched the surrounding areas with the assistance of San Diego Sheriff Department’s helicopter but were unable to locate the suspect.

The suspect is described as a black male, approximately 22 years old, wearing a dark jacket and dark pants.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the La Mesa Police Department.
