Citizen Tip Leads To Burglary Arrest

LA MESA -- A tip from a watchful citizen led the arrest of a suspected car burglary early Friday.

Police said that at 11 a.m.  a citizen called 9-1-1 to report a vehicle burglary in progress at the Office Depot parking lot, 8481 Fletcher Parkway. The citizen was able to provide a detailed description of the suspect and police units were dispatched immediately. As police officers were responding, the suspect realized that he was being watched and fled the scene eastbound towards the Grossmont Trolley Station on foot.

Motorcycle Officer Hans Warren was in the area and located the suspect near the trolley station. Officer Warren detained the suspect without incident as he was attempting to conceal property in some bushes. Property stolen from the van was recovered.

Suspect: Rakeem Morehead, 19 years old of La Mesa.
Charge: Vehicle Burglary
Morehead was booked into San Diego County Jail on the listed charge. The La Mesa Police Department expressed its appreciation for the witness’ vigilance and quick reporting of this incident to the police.
