Arrest Made In La Mesa Murder

LA MESA -- On May 16th  at approximately 5:24 a.m., the La Mesa Police Department received a 9-1-1 telephone call reporting that an adult male had been shot inside a residence in the 8200 block of El Paso Street in the City of La Mesa.
Upon arrival, La Mesa Police officers found an unknown male inside a bedroom of the residence with a gunshot wound. The male was pronounced dead at the scene.
La Mesa Police Department Detectives responded to the scene and worked over the next few weeks, following up on leads that ultimately led to identifying the suspect in this case.
On May 27th at approximately 9:45 a.m., the La Mesa Police Department’s Special Response Team (SRT) and detectives arrested Samuel Godinez (37 years old) in the shooting death of victim Christopher Gillette (33 years old). Godinez who is from Lemon Grove was arrested in 1700 block of Linda Vista Drive in San Marcos.
The victim, Gillette, was originally from Lakeside but was staying periodically at the El Paso Street residence in La Mesa.
Samuel Godinez was booked at San Diego County Jail on a murder charge.
