LA MESA -- On Sunday evening at approximately 6:33 p.m. La Mesa Police Motor Officer Tim Purdy located a reported stolen vehicle at the intersection of Jackson Drive and Center Drive in La Mesa. Officer Purdy attempted to stop the reported stolen blue 2013 Nissan Rogue. The driver failed to stop and fled northbound Jackson Drive at speeds in excess of 60 mph. As the pursuit reached the 5700 block of Jackson Drive, Officer Purdy lost control of his motorcycle and crashed into the curb front of Jackson Park. The pursuit was terminated, and the other officers responding to help rendered aid to Officer Purdy. Officer Purdy was transported to a local hospital where he was treated and released for a minor concussion and sore neck.
At approximately 6:39 p.m. a resident in the 5700 block of Cowles Mountain Boulevard called the police to report that two subjects just parked and ran from a blue Nissan Rogue. Officers from La Mesa, San Diego Police and the San Diego Sheriff’s Department responded to assist in locating the outstanding suspects. One suspect, 33 year-old Michael Seymour Jr., was located near the intersection of Lake Murray Boulevard and Connecticut Avenue. He was arrested and booked on charges of possession of narcotics and placed on a parole hold.
The second suspect was reported last seen running into the canyon east of Anders Circle. Officers searched the canyon for hours but were unable to locate the outstanding suspect. The suspect is described as a white male adult, with no shirt, and numerous tattoos. He was last seen running in the canyon. Anyone with information on this suspect is asked to call La Mesa Police at 619-667-1400.
Early Monday morning, approximately 12:37 A.M., officers responded to a report of a suspicious person in the area of 5500 Jackson Drive in the city of La Mesa. The description of the suspicious person was similar to the suspect wanted in the stolen vehicle pursuit. Officers located the subject and determined he was the suspect from the pursuit. The suspect was taken into custody without incident.
The suspect was booked into San Diego County Jail on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle, reckless evading and felony warrant. He was identified as James Francis Rachels, a 27 year old transient from El Cajon.
