LA MESA -- Police are investigating the second purse snatching in a week -- the latest one involving a woman who was holding her child at the time of the theft.
At about 7:30 p.m. Saturday a male suspect robbed a mother of her purse as she held her 2 year old child in her arms in the 8000 block of University Avenue.
As the woman was walking northbound, crossing the street in the 8000 block of University Avenue, a male suspect approached her from behind and shoved her in the back. The suspect then forcibly grabbed the woman's purse from her arm and fled the area on foot. Neither the woman nor child was injured during the struggle. The suspect was last seen running northbound on Culowee Street from University Avenue.
Officers searched the surrounding areas with the assistance of San Diego Sheriff Department’s K-9, but were unable to locate the suspect.
The suspect is described as a black male, 5’9”, 35 years old, medium build, wearing a gray colored jacket with a red or gray hood, a dark colored baseball cap, and dark gray pants.
This was the second recent purse snatching in La Mesa. Last Sunday, a woman walking at Grossmont Center had her purse stolen by a man in a passing car.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the La Mesa Police Department.
