Police Pursuing Suspect In Amarillo Shooting

LA MESA – Just 24 hours after the second shooting in two weeks in La Mesa and police detectives have been working around the clock to try solve the cases that have shocked two quiet neighborhoods.

The victim in Thursday evening’s shooting on Amarillo Avenue continued to cling to life late today, though police sources said the incident involved multiple shots and the victim was gravely wounded in the head. Police were not yet releasing his identity.

La Mesa Police Captain Dan Willis said investigators are convinced the Amarillo incident has no connection to the shooting death Sept. 21st in southeast La Mesa.

Police said they have developed the name of a suspect in the Amarillo shooting and are currently looking to find that person and interview him. “We have detectives who haven’t had a day off since the last shooting,’’ Willis said. “This is not a usual event for us.’’

Unlike the shooting in southeast La Mesa, which police believe both the victim and perpetrators came in from outside La Mesa, police are focusing on a house on Amarillo that appears to be linked to Thursday night’s shooting incident.

Police continue to pursue leads from the investigation on Amarillo.
