Robbers Smash And Grab At Park Estates

LA MESA -- Arlene Moore, owner of Park Estates Antiques, was cleaning up today after an overnight burglary that left her La Mesa Boulevard store in a shambles.

Moore said the burglars crashed her front door and smashed a number of the jewelry cases that presented merchandise to customers in her crowded store.

Police said they were notified of a burglar alarm just after 2:10 a.m. and responded immediately, but the intruders had already left the scene. Canine units were used to assure the intruders were not hiding inside.

Moore was busy Thursday afternoon meeting with craftsman to get the cases reconstructed and said she would have a better assessment of the damage later.

Moore, who is president of the La Mesa Village Merchants Association, has been a fixture on the boulevard for years. She organizes the annual Antique Street Faire, which last weekend brought thousands of shoppers to the street.

Her store is located at 8371 La Mesa Boulevard, just across the street from the new Gingham restaurant.

La Mesa police are investigating the break-in.
