Man Grabs Woman's Purse Near Mall

GROSSMONT CENTER -- For the second time in a month, a woman was robbed of her purse while walking near Grossmont Center.

Police said that Friday night at about 7:35 p.m., a male suspect robbed a female of her purse as she walked near Grossmont Center shopping mall in La Mesa.

As the woman was walking near the intersection of Grossmont Center Drive and Healthcare Drive, a man  approached her from behind and began pulling at her purse. The female briefly struggled to keep possession of her purse but the suspect forcibly took the purse from her arm.

The victim lost her balance in the struggle and fell to the ground. She did not sustain any visible injuries and declined medical treatment at the scene, police said.

The suspect entered a silver, 2 door vehicle that was being driven by another male. The vehicle was last seen driving northbound on Grossmont Center Drive.

Officers searched the surrounding areas, but were unable to locate the suspects or the vehicle.

Suspect #1 is described as a black male, 5’9”-5’11”, athletic build, wearing a blue polo shirt and dark pants.

Suspect #2, the driver of the vehicle, was described as a black male. No further details could be provided.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to call the La Mesa Police Department.
