Councilman Allan Won't Seek Re-Election

LA MESA -- Councilman Dave Allan made a surprise announcement at the city council meeting today that he will not be seeking a fourth term when his current term ends in 16 months.

Allan thanked the city staff and noted that he will have served for more than a decade of the city's 100-year history.

"I have always said it is the people who make La Mesa special," Allan said. "It has been an honor to serve them."

Allan's decision leaves local businessman Jim Wieboldt and local realtor Laura Lothian as declared candidates for the two seats that are up for grabs.  Patrick Dean, who lost to Mark Arapostathis and Ernest Ewin in 2010 said today he will be running too. Councilwoman Ruth Sterling will also be up for re-election. When asked this evening if she intended to seek another term, Sterling didn't hesitate.
"I'm running,'' she said. "I always run.''
